Decision time for Uganda

February 18, 2011 2 comments

Today is the day for the Ugandan election. Much indicates that Yoweri Museveni that will win again and may soon have passed Mubarak in years in office as he has been in charge of the country since 1986. The main opposition candidate for the last election, Besigye, had to spend most of the period prior to the election in courts to defend himself from recurring accuses from the government. And not surprisingly, after not having had time to promote the party, Museveni won.

Despite the rigged elections, Museveni and the governments have also done several good things in Ugandan politics including improving development and putting emphasis on the importance of HIV. Still, many are calling for some new ideas in the office to could guide Uganda further forward. Unfortunately, reports have indicated that giving soap and sugar to the voters have been more emphasised than good politics during the election campaigns.
